Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging

JMG’s Commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging

JMG’s vision is to be a champion for all Maine students facing barriers to education. Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging have always been at the heart of JMG, and our entire organization is committed to maintaining and continuously improving inclusive environments and practices.

Here are JMG’s action steps:

  1. Intentionally and actively recruit & serve students who face inequities due to race, ethnicity, gender identity, and personal and social circumstances by recognizing “students who face social inequities” as a programmatic qualifier.

  2. Provide staff training & professional development on inclusive practices, cultivate open dialogue in the classroom, and advocate for students when societal barriers impede the pursuit of basic needs and goals.

  3. Develop and deliver core competencies and curriculum so that students are building skills of global competence, broadening their multicultural awareness, and realizing the power of collaborating within diverse teams through both school and community initiatives.

  4. Intentionally and actively recruit and retain field staff, management, executives, and board members who reflect multicultural and diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.

With the devastating impact that racism, homophobia, misogynism, and other acts of hate and systemic inequities can have on our students, it’s vital that JMG continues to commit to best practice DEIB initiatives and we thread these practices into the fabric of our model and services. JMG is a student-centered organization as well as a change agent in our educational and workforce development systems. We remain committed to removing barriers for our students so that all Maine students graduate, attain post-secondary credentials, and pursue meaningful careers.
