School Ceremonies
Student-planned and student-run events that give Maine students the chance to shine.

In the fall, JMG high school and middle school programs all over the state prepare to kick off their school year by holding an Initiation & Installation Ceremony (high school programs) or Opening Ceremony (middle school programs).
The purpose of these events is to induct students into their Professional Associations (high school) or Middle School Councils, and to swear in those students elected by their peers to serve as officers.
Each school runs its ceremony slightly differently, but all involve traditions such as the lighting of candles or thanking parents for their support of the students, keynote speeches by members of the business community or local legislators, and a reception with family and friends.
Some programs also choose to hold a Closing Ceremony in late spring to celebrate accomplishments.
