Urban Adventure

An urban scavenger hunt that teaches job attainment skills

Every spring, JMG teams up with Unum to offer Urban Adventure to JMG's 8th graders. Dubbed "Maine's Largest Educational Slumber Party," Urban Adventure has students traveling to Unum's Portland headquarters, where they are treated to lunch, a guest speaker, a dance, and – the main event – a scavenger hunt in Portland's Old Port. During the hunt, groups of students use their communication and teamwork skills to collect items such as business cards, job applications, and signatures from Portland police.

Along with the hunt, this unique educational event brings students behind-the-scenes of many local businesses, providing the rare opportunity to network with staff and CEOs, while exploring careers.

Other highlights include a tour of the Portland Police Department, the chance for students to perform community service at Portland-area nonprofits, mock job interviews with a variety of volunteer business professionals, and team-building initiatives.

In light of the state-wide school closings and ongoing efforts to ensure the health and safety of our students and their families, our staff and our volunteers, we have cancelled this year’s Urban Adventure. The next Urban Adventure will take place in Spring 2021.
